Final Pieces
There are five images below which all come together as my final piece. Each image represents an annul event or festival. Next to each image I have written a short analysis which includes what I did on Photoshop and to achieve what, what I think of the picture, whether it represents the events well and what inspired me for the look in the photograph.
Holi
My model here is representing an Indian festival called Holi. To achieve the look of Holi I got many different coloured powders and literally through them on my model. I then edited this picture on Photoshop by slightly increasing the saturation so the colours pop out more. This was one of the easier festivals to shoot as this shoot was a lot more free and the model was willing for the powder to go all over her which made it a lot more easier and fun. As this festival fills the streets of India I decided to shoot the model in front of bricks so there is an urban, outdoor feel to the picture.
Onam
The image on the left represents an Indian festival called Onam. I think this image is the most fashion like image out of the 6 images which is why I think this image is one of the more stronger images. In Photoshop I had to duplicate the layer and then on that layer cut around the model so I had to erase the background so it was just the model standing alone. After that I went back to the original layer and increased the red and decreased the blue to enhance the colour of the rose bush without making it look over the top. I did the same for the grass by increasing the green colour balance to give the grass a more lively brighter colour.
Carnival
I enjoyed shooting carnival because like Holi it was fun and free. Carnival like Holi is about colours so in this photo shoot I poured glitter all over the models clothes and on one side of her face. This image represents a masquerade carnival. Carnival is hugely influenced by African traditions and one of these traditions are having feathered headdresses which symbolises certain ideas. On the side of the mask are feathers which were done to represent this African Tradition. On top of this the mask consists of bright vibrant colours to add the colou aspect of carnival.
Diwali
I have chosen this image as my final piece for Diwali because I think this photograph represents the festival of lights. I like the red and black gradients in the picture which gives it a warm feel with the addition of the candles creates a deeper warmth. Overall I think it's the reds, browns and blacks in this picture with the glowing tints of the candle which represents the festival of lights. I was inspired to use candles because at the time of Diwali temples are filled with candles which have been lit. This usually happens in the evening which makes the scene look a lot more beautiful. This is why I wanted to create an evening affect to the picture with the inclusion of candles.
Easter
This photograph represents Easter, a Christian event. I was inspired to create a crown of thorns for my model to wear because when I was researching Easter pictures of Jesus came up with a crown of thorns on his head. This inspired me to show the death aspect of Easter and the bright green leaves show the coming to life of Jesus Christ as the leaves in the picture are of a lively green colour.
