My Idea's
Below are ideas that I have come up with to start and help me answer this brief.
Events
When I think of the topic ‘past present and future’ I automatically think of recent events that have marked its place in history and past events that are known to almost everyone, such as the recent election of the first black president of America Barack Obama and the world war. In this project I think experimentations with camera angles will be highly important as they will show power and vulnerability of the people in the pictures and who and what those people are portraying. I also want to research war photographers in depth to understand how they worked in the environment they did and what techniques they used. I also want to research and experiment in other photographer styles, who have also captured famous events and history. I will also be putting my opinion of what I think will mark it's place in histroy in the future.
Hair & Make-Up (Fashion)
I find fashion really interesting to look at as it is constantly changing. As I have chosen to study the past, present and future I think fashion is one of the more creative topics within this area of study. I want to research fashion in depth by reconstructing looks in the past and who was the inspiration behind these looks and then putting my own twist on them. I want to then do this with the present and illustrate what I think the future trend will be. Not only will I be looking at make-up but I will be looking at the other areas in fashion such as hair, clothing and accessories. What I plan to achieve by doing this is to show a visual comparison of how varied fashion can be and also a cycle as I believe trends in the past do come back into fashion.
Social Issues
One of the first things that come to mind when the words “social issues” are mentioned is homelessness. I think this topic area allows me to cover the problems in our societies such as teenage pregnancies, graffiti, homelessness, pollution etc. I also want to look at what the social issues in the past were and how we overcame them to show how we as a society and other societies have developed and progressed and what we tend to do about the current issues. I also want to show what I think the future will look like if we have overcome the current social issues. I will research past and present social issues that London has suffered and base the issues around London.
Photographers Of The Past
The reason I have chosen “decades of photography” as one of my topic areas to study is because I want to understand how photographer in the past worked and the techniques they used to create certain effects. After I have done my research I want to experiment with the techniques that my chosen photographers used. I want to do the same for the present and the future, however I think the past will be the most interesting as I think that with the minimum equipment that was used in the past some of the best photographs were taken. This will include both portrait and street photography.
