Past
Social Issues in the 1950's & 1960's
The Civil Rights Movement happened in America. Martin Luther King, Jr. lead the movement of blacks against whites. He and his followers were persecuted mercilessly until the Supreme Court intervened in the court case of Brown vs. Board of Education. It overruled the previous ruling which said separate but equal and made it so that everyone was integrated within.
Present
General Social Issues
What does social issues mean? Social issues are matters which directly or indirectly affect many or all members of a society and are considered to be problems, controversies related to moral values, or both. The current social issues globally are; CO2 emissions, deforestation, recession and poverty. In this project I have decided to look at what the social issues are now and compare them to the past and how they have improve, and what I would like to improve in the future such as bullying. The images below are some pictures I have taken around my local area to illustrate not only the issues in my local community but a representation globally of what the world is facing.
This image represent litter as the image clearly shows a television and a paint bucket dumped in the middle of the street. This is a problem not only in my society but a global issue. Instead of placing these items in the middle of the street the items could of been put into the bin or even better recycled. This is just one of the many problems the globe faces.
This is an extreme close-up image of a damaged tree and it represents rainforest deforestation. The amazon forest used to cover 14% of the earth's land surface but now only covers a mere 6%. This is not only damaging to us as we need trees to recycle carbon dioxide into oxygen and acts as the 'earth's lungs'. It is also destroying the worlds species of animals, plants and micro-organisms.
The car in this image represent the CO2 emissions that us humans create by using cars. Cars create more CO2 than air planes which is very alarming. We, as a global society need to reduce our carbon foot prints by turning of switches when not in use, walking or cycling and eliminate deforestation. If we don't this could have a huge impact on our future as we are destroying our earth and soon will kill it which means the human species and all other species will wipe out.
Mini Project Final Piece
Social Issues Within Education: Lampton School
To start of my project I have taken pictures of issues that Lampton School have to deal with. These are issues such as littering, recycling and air pollution. I will be focusing on current social issues that happen all over the world as well as looking at the issues with education, for example, what problems Lampton School face and how we then deal with the problems.
Not only as a school but as a community and globally, pollution is our biggest social issue that we yet have to tackle. Lampton School, the teachers especially do not help prevent pollution when it comes to travelling as majority of the teachers come to school and go home in their cars. As a school, to reduce the air pollution created by cars teachers should walk more or even share transport.
When I first came up with this idea I thought I would be able to do a lot. However, this was one project in which I didn't progress to any where as it was more of a dead end project. I found that no matter how much I thought I could do with this topic I found it extremely difficult branching out unlike Icons, and Buildings. It was too late for me to cancel this project so I decided to do as much research as I could on global issues in particular global warming and apply that to the environment I live in, such as my own community.
To conclude this introduction this project was unsuccessful unlike the other three project which were very successful. This taught me that not every topic can take you somewhere as this one clearly didn't.
